Default btw, wtf is THIS bs?!

NGD now requires a STEAM plugin for smooth game launch?! Takes me at least 15-20 times as long to log in than b4. I'm on Linux & here's what the OS says is the prob:

"[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; SteamAPI_IsSteamRunning() failed.
[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to locate a running instance of Steam, or a local steamclient.dll.

Linuxmage never got back to the thread where this was 1st posted, so reposting it here so he & all can gander at the terminal printout & give some (or any) explanation/advice.

NGD, what's your rationale for this? Y isn't ALL needed software necessary for a quick, smooth launch of your game included from EVERY provider, torrent or mirror from which CoR can be downloaded? FFS!...

what is this additional steam software, what does it do and why is it needed?

is it reporting playing numbers to steam? authentication for steam users?

if it isn't needed please delete it completely.
maybe its some kind of prelimiary plan to upgrade antimemory hacks - something like gameguard etc. those anti memory hack things are disgusting. laggy, slow, badly coded.

I am not sure what is causing the steam error, I cannot reproduce it on my steam free system. Also, I use a pure NGD account, with the mainstream linux client as downloaded from this site.

The rest of it is related to ALSA, the sound system. Do you have Alsa installed on that system?

Like I say, from what I know, the linux client for regnum is known to have issues with anything less than Ubuntu 12.10, so the fact that you are running 12.04 might be part of the problem.

If you do have Alsa installed as part of that system, you might want to try running alsaconfig, and see what it does. The last bit is about another sound server called Jack, which I dont have, and isnt needed.
